Squads

Our squad program introduces children to swimming in larger groups & builds upon the techniques learned in previous levels.

Benefits of squads:

  • Students individual stroke technique is further developed.
  • Strength & endurance are further promoted and developed.
  • Fitness and friendships.

LEVEL 7 - DEVELOPMENT SQUAD

Swimmers who have achieved a level of swimming where they no longer require the intensive instruction provided in our L2S Program, will progress to TEAM BBC.

This is the place to swim squad with a focus on fun, form, fitness & fast swimming.

Swimmers at this level can cover

25 meters bi lateral freestyle

backstroke with correct hand entry

breaststroke with correct timing 

butterfly with fins and correct arm recovery 

 (minimum age 8 years)

LEVEL 8 SQUAD & LEVEL 9 WSS SQUAD

Wooloowin State School (Term 1 & 4 ONLY )

Swimmers must be able to sustain 60 minute class covering 

50 meters with technical proficiency  in all four strokes

Dive from blocks

Tumble turn

further refining the four strokes, correct technique, starts and turns, race finishes as well as developing endurance, stamina & water rescue skills. These squads are a great preparation for school swimming carnivals, Metropolitan swim competitions or club swim nights.

All instructors hold Competitive Stroke qualifications and or ASCTA Development Coaching credentials.

Instruction is out of the water with a ratio of 1:10.

Swimmers will require their own swim kits for training.

(minimum age 9 years)

Training is held at the Wooloowin State School pool venue.

BBC Team EXCELERATE

 

TEAM BBC SQUADS

Brisbane Boys’ College (all year)

The first level of our competitive squads before they move through to our senior squad program from 12 years of age. 

GREEN TEAM – 60  MINUTES

Swimming 25 meters of freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke. They will learn lane etiquette, continual swim distance and endurance skills. Addition skills include Butterfly ,  tumble turns and correct racing dives from blocks.

Swimmers will require their own swim kit containing fins, kickboard & water bottle

To advance into White Team, swimmers must be able to successfully:

Swim 50m of continuous freestyle & backstroke with the correct progression of push off, streamline, kick, arms, breathing and rotation.

Swim 25m of breaststroke and butterfly with correct progression of push off, streamlining, kick, arms and breathing coordination

Perform the required racing dive, rudimentary tumble turns and stroke drills

WHITE – 60 MINUTES

For students in Year 4 or above looking to join the BBC GPS swim team or develop their competition swim skills

Focus is on challenging fitness, flexibility, strength, endurance, and speed to achieve your personal goals, including competitive training.

Swimmers will require their own swim kit containing fins, kickboard & water bottle

To advance into Black Team, swimmers must be able to successfully:

Swim 100m of continuous  freestyle, backstroke  and breaststroke with the correct progression of push off, streamlining, kick, arms and breathing coordination.

Swim 50m of butterfly with the correct progression of push off, streamlining, kick, arms and breathing coordination.

Perform the required racing dive, tumble turns and stroke drills

Black Team is by invitation only

BLACK – 60 MINUTES

For Year 5 – 7 (minimum age 9) competitive swimmers swimmers.

Training is held all year with 3 sessions per week available in Term 2 & 3 afterschool . Term 1 & 4 will see an additional 4 sessions available to BBC GPS swimmers with a combination of mornings and afternoons.

The aim of our Black Team is to develop in all four competitive strokes to reach their full potential.
